Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg has found himself at the center of a controversy after his yacht was accused of inaction during an incident off the coast of Alaska. A small motorboat ran out of fuel in the area between Petersburg and Juneau, and operators of a nearby cruise ship came to its aid. Meanwhile, according to reports, Zuckerberg's yacht was in close proximity, but its crew did not respond to repeated distress signals, reports infohub.kz.
One passenger on the cruise ship told journalists: "Our boat rescued the stranded vessel last night, and apparently we did so after the Coast Guard radioed Mark Zuckerberg's yacht, which was closer, and they repeatedly refused to respond." Those involved in the incident claim that the billionaire's yacht, valued at $300 million, ignored the distressed boat's signals several times.
A representative for Meta said that Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla were not on board the yacht at the time. The press office added that the yacht's crew was communicating on a different radio channel and missed the distress signal.
