A video showing police officers stopping traffic to let a family of swans with their cygnets cross the road quickly went viral on social media. The officers' act of kindness touched hundreds of users, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Kostanay Regional Police Department, the hero of the clip is Senior Lieutenant Ali Yerulan, an inspector of the patrol police platoon in the Kostanay District. Together with his colleague Aidarbek Alseitov, he was on duty when they spotted a swan with its brood near a busy highway. Due to heavy traffic, the birds could not safely cross the road. The officers decided to temporarily block the flow and let the feathered family calmly make their way to the other side.
Ali Yerulan said the incident reminded him of his childhood spent in the village of Torgai. “While patrolling with my colleague Aidarbek Alseitov, I saw a family of swans with tiny chicks, and memories from my childhood immediately came to mind. I remember one time a flock of migrating swans stopped near our village. We were just boys then: we didn't scare the birds, on the contrary, we tried to help them continue on their way peacefully. Today, without hesitation, we stopped traffic and gave the swans and their babies a chance to cross the road safely. For some, it's just a few minutes of waiting, but for us, it's a life saved and an opportunity to make this world a little kinder,” he shared.
Yerulan has been serving in the police force for seven years and, as he admits, this was the first time he encountered such an unusual situation.
The officers' act sparked widespread praise online. Users thanked the patrol officers for their compassion.
