City Responds to Fountain Color Change

The Almaty Department for the Development of Public Spaces has addressed the situation, clarifying that planned work is underway to ensure the sanitary and technical readiness of the city's fountains.

Sanitation and Safety Measures

According to the department, the unusual color is a result of special reagents used to clean the fountain basins, maintain equipment, prevent algae growth, and ensure sanitary safety. These measures are part of routine maintenance for the city's water features.

The Reason Behind the Blue Hue

Officials explained that the blue coloration is likely due to reagents based on copper sulfate. They emphasized that the quantities used are within permissible limits and comply with established norms, assuring the public that the process is safe.

Fountain Season Underway

Almaty's public fountains began their phased activation in early May. This season, a total of 55 communal fountain complexes are scheduled to operate, including 11 "dry" fountains.
