Astana Apartment Facade Collapses Due to Strong Winds, No Injuries Reported
ASTANA – A significant portion of a nine-story residential building's facade unexpectedly detached and fell on March 11, following intense winds in the Kazakh capital. The incident occurred around 5:00 PM in the "Ayka" residential complex on the city's right bank.
Facade Detachment Amidst High Winds
Preliminary reports indicate that the building's thermal insulation material separated from the outer wall due to the force of the wind. Videos circulating on social media show a large section of the building's wall exposed, with metal fasteners visible. Debris from the insulation panels was scattered around the base of the building.
No Casualties Reported
Fortunately, no individuals were in the vicinity of the building at the time of the collapse. The press service of the Akimat (city administration) confirmed that there were no injuries. The building, constructed in 2015, experienced this structural failure due to the severe weather conditions.
Repair Efforts Underway
The building's management company is currently assessing the costs associated with the necessary repairs. The possibility of hiring industrial climbers to restore the facade is being considered. This incident follows a previous facade collapse on November 8 at a different nine-story building on Independence Avenue, where brick cladding fell, resulting in injuries to five people.
