Astana Braces for Spring Warm-Up: First Thaw Expected Mid-March

Astana is set to bid farewell to its harsh winter chill as a gradual warming trend is expected in the coming days. Meteorologists have pinpointed a specific date for the arrival of the season's first noticeable thaw.

Cold Snap and Strong Winds Ahead

The coldest day is anticipated on March 11th, with nighttime temperatures plummeting to -26°C and daytime highs struggling to reach -12°C. This frigid weather will be exacerbated by strong winds gusting up to 16 meters per second.

Saturday Brings Snow and Moderating Temperatures

Starting March 12th, the severe frost will begin to ease. Daytime temperatures are expected to hover around -5°C. However, forecasters are predicting the heaviest snowfall of the week, with precipitation potentially reaching 2.5 mm. Strong winds are also expected to persist on this day.

Stable Weather Towards Week's End

Between March 13th and 16th, the weather in the capital is projected to stabilize. Daytime temperatures will range from -1°C to -2°C, with nighttime lows between -5°C and -6°C. The wind speed will gradually decrease, dropping from 11 meters per second on Friday to approximately 5 m/s by Monday. Precipitation is unlikely during this period.

The True Spring Thaw Arrives

A significant shift is expected on March 17th, with daytime temperatures rising to 0°C and sunny conditions anticipated. March 18th is forecast to be the warmest day, with clear skies and temperatures reaching up to +1°C.

Temperatures will remain near the freezing point towards the end of the week. On March 20th, a mix of light precipitation, including rain mixed with snow, is possible.

In summary, the sub-zero temperatures below -10°C are expected to leave Astana after March 12th, with the first true spring thaw arriving around March 18th.
