Astana LRT Nears Launch: Key Stations Inspected, Passenger Service Expected Soon
The launch of Astana's Light Rail Transit (LRT) system is on the horizon, following a recent inspection of key facilities by top government officials. First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar and Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek visited crucial sites, offering insights into the projected timeline for passenger operations.
Unified Dispatch Center: The LRT's 'Brain'
A primary focus of the inspection was the depot building, which houses the nearly completed Unified Dispatch Center (UDC). Spanning 768 square meters, this center is designed to be the operational hub for the city's entire transport network. The UDC will not only manage LRT train movements in real-time but also coordinate traffic lights, public transport schedules, and bike-sharing systems. This integrated approach aims to enable swift responses to any urban emergencies.
Key Stations and Technical Readiness
During their tour, Sklyar and Kassymbek examined significant stations along the route, including "Airport," "Baiterek," and "House of Ministries." Active testing is currently underway across the entire line.
Testing and Operational Timeline
Testing procedures are being conducted for over 12 hours daily. These tests meticulously examine aspects such as precise train stopping, door synchronization, and the functionality of safety systems. While an exact launch date for passenger service is contingent upon the successful completion of all comprehensive measures and verification of the system's technical compliance, the report indicates that operations are anticipated in the coming months.
The commencement of this long-awaited project in Astana is a matter of significant public interest. Previously, inquiries were made to City Transportation Systems (CTS) seeking specific launch dates. The company stated that the network's launch and the start of passenger transportation are planned for 2026.
