Earthquake Strikes Zhetysu Region, Kazakhstan: Magnitude 4.4 Recorded

Residents of Kazakhstan's Zhetysu Region experienced seismic activity early Sunday morning. The earthquake, registered on March 31st, has prompted reports from local media and seismic monitoring centers.

Epicenter and Magnitude Details

According to the operational information from the Kazakhstan Seismic Center, the tremors occurred at 00:42 Astana time. The epicenter of the underground shocks was located 33 kilometers northwest of the city of Zharkent. The earthquake registered a magnitude of 4.4.

As of now, there have been no reports of the tremors being felt within Kazakhstan. Authorities are monitoring the situation, and further updates will be provided as they become available.

Previous Seismic Activity

This event follows a previous earthquake that occurred on February 19th near the border of Kazakhstan and China. That tremor had a magnitude of 5.0 and was felt by residents in the Almaty Region.
