Elena Rybakina Aims for World No. 1 Ranking in Upcoming Tennis Season
Kazakhstan's leading tennis player, Elena Rybakina, has set her sights on a significant career milestone: achieving the world number one ranking in the upcoming season. This ambitious goal was revealed during a press conference at the Indian Wells tournament.
Chasing the Top Spot
Rybakina expressed her determination to climb higher in the WTA rankings, stating, "My goal, of course, is to climb further in the rankings and take the first place. But I understand that there is still a lot of work ahead, and much depends on other players. Yes, this is my next big goal. I will try to achieve it this year and hope it will be successful."
Recent Success and Future Prospects
This aspiration follows a strong performance that saw Rybakina ascend to the second position in the WTA rankings after defeating Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells tournament. Her journey in the tournament is set to culminate in a final match against the current world number one, Aryna Sabalenka.
The winner of the Indian Wells tournament will receive a substantial prize of over 1.2 million US dollars, equivalent to more than 585 million Kazakhstani tenge.
