Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi announced that the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, known as 'Islamabad,' no longer exists, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to the Iranian diplomat, the US violated all its commitments and resumed military operations in the Middle East, facing a 'decisive response.'
'We are now in a situation where the US has violated all its commitments and resumed military and aggressive actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran. At the same time, they have faced a decisive response from our valiant armed forces. Under these circumstances, Iran feels no obligations because, look, there is no longer any memorandum to speak of,' Garibabadi said.
The memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran was signed on June 18. The document provided for an immediate and final cessation of hostilities on all fronts and the unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz.
On July 13, The New York Times reported that US President Donald Trump had notified Congress of the resumption of hostilities against Iran. On the night of July 14, the US struck Iran for the third consecutive night. According to CENTCOM, the US military operation lasted five hours and targeted Iranian military infrastructure to reduce Tehran's ability to attack vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the UAE Defense Ministry, on the same night, Iranian cruise missiles attacked tankers belonging to the United Arab Emirates. The vessels Mombasa and Bahia were struck in Omani territorial waters.
On the evening of July 14, US forces carried out new strikes on Iran. CENTCOM said the strikes were aimed at weakening Tehran's ability to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, in turn, struck US military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan.
