Karaganda Region Embraces Natural Gas: Thousands of Homes to Get Blue Fuel
The Karaganda region is undergoing a significant expansion of its natural gas infrastructure, bringing the cleaner and more convenient fuel to thousands of homes. This ambitious project is set to enhance the quality of life for residents and contribute to environmental improvements in the industrial heartland.
Expanding Gas Networks Across Key Cities
Natural gas is rapidly becoming accessible in Karaganda and its neighboring cities. In recent years, numerous private homeowners have gained the opportunity to switch to this eco-friendly energy source. Currently, gas distribution networks have been laid for approximately 16,500 private homes in Karaganda and Temirtau, with over 7,500 households already connected.
Progress in Gas Pipeline Construction
In 2025, the construction of gas distribution networks was simultaneously carried out in three cities within the Karaganda region: Karaganda, Temirtau, and Shakhtinsk. Over the course of the year, a total of 269.5 kilometers of gas pipelines were laid. Of this, 171 kilometers were allocated to Karaganda, 63 kilometers to Temirtau, and 35.5 kilometers to Shakhtinsk.
Connecting Homes to the Gas Grid
In Karaganda, nearly 10,000 homes are now eligible for gas connection, with technical specifications processed for 7,199 of them. In Temirtau, gas has been supplied to 6,500 homes, and around 3,000 homeowners have received the technical conditions for connection. To date, 7,527 subscribers have been connected to the gas system, representing 45.6% of the total number of homes where lines have been laid.
Karaganda's Phased Gasification Plan
The gasification of Karaganda is being implemented in phases, encompassing 16 launch complexes and four construction stages. By 2025, the first, second, and third launch complexes of the initial phase were commissioned. Last year saw the completion of two more major stages: the fourth launch complex, spanning 109 kilometers with 2,477 outlets, and the fifth complex, covering 62 kilometers with 1,356 outlets.
Future Expansion Plans for 2026
Work is scheduled to continue into 2026, with plans to construct approximately 90 more kilometers of gas distribution networks. Project documentation is being prepared for the sixth launch complex of the first phase, which will serve the Taugyl and Kungей microdistricts. Additionally, construction will commence this year on the first stage of the seventh gasification complex and the second stages of the first and second launch complexes. The seventh gasification complex will cover numerous private sector streets, including Rybnaya, Konditerskaya, Keramicheskaya, Goncharnaya, Balkhashskaya, Kirpichnaya, Chetskaya, Stekolnaya, Spasskaya, Klyuchevaya, Duyssembekov, and others. This project is designed for 1,801 subscribers, involving the laying of about 65 kilometers of lines and the installation of 19 medium and low-pressure gas regulating stations.
Temirtau's Gasification Project Completed
The gasification project in Temirtau has been fully completed. It involved eight launch complexes and three construction stages, ultimately making gas connection possible for approximately 6,500 homes.
Developments in Shakhtinsk
In Shakhtinsk, construction activities are ongoing. The plan includes the construction of 229.22 kilometers of gas distribution networks, which will enable gas supply to 2,480 homes. The construction of the automated gas distribution station "Shakhtinsk" and a high-pressure gas pipeline measuring 18 kilometers in length and 530 mm in diameter has been finalized. Furthermore, 16.5 kilometers of gas pipelines have been laid in the North-Western microdistrict, and the construction of intra-quarter networks has begun, with 35.5 kilometers of pipes installed.
The Importance of Gasification for the Region
Experts highlight several advantages of gasifying major cities in this industrial region. It is expected to lower air pollution levels, make home heating more convenient and economical, and significantly improve the living standards for residents in the private sector. This project remains a crucial infrastructural development for the Karaganda region, gradually extending its reach to more settlements.
