Kazakh Actress Reveals Unsavory Casting Couch Offers in Showbiz

Renowned Kazakh actress and producer Kuralai Anarbekova has bravely lifted the veil on some of the less glamorous aspects of the country's entertainment industry, detailing personal experiences with inappropriate proposals she faced early in her career.

An Unwelcome Proposition

In a candid interview, Anarbekova revealed that after her breakthrough role in "Korlan," she expected to be offered leading roles without auditions. However, during one casting session, she encountered an unexpected and deeply uncomfortable situation.

The "Chocolate Offer"

Anarbekova recounted how a director invited her for an evening of drinks and socializing, despite knowing he was married and significantly older. This proposition, which she described as a "chocolate offer," deeply offended her sense of dignity.

"As a Western-style girl, I responded very rudely," she shared, emphasizing her shock and strong rejection of the advance.

A Catalyst for Change

The incident prompted significant reflection for the actress. She realized that the lifespan of an actress could be short and that she needed to broaden her professional horizons. This led her to consider a career path that offered more control and influence.

"I realized I needed to develop myself," Anarbekova stated. "The person who oversees the director is the producer." This realization spurred her decision to pursue further education in Moscow.

From Actress to Producer

Upon returning to Kazakhstan after her studies, Anarbekova observed that the industry's dynamics hadn't entirely shifted. She credits that single negative experience with a director as the direct inspiration for her transition into producing.

"If that situation hadn't happened, perhaps I wouldn't have become a producer," she concluded, underscoring the profound impact of the event on her career trajectory.
