Kazakh Billionaire Aydin Rakhimbayev Pledges Half His Fortune to Charity

Kazakh businessman and co-founder of BI Group, Aydin Rakhimbayev, along with his wife Anar, has officially joined the international initiative "The Giving Pledge." This significant commitment calls on billionaires to dedicate the majority of their wealth to charitable causes.

What is "The Giving Pledge"?

Founded in 2010 by Bill Gates, Melinda French Gates, and Warren Buffett, "The Giving Pledge" encourages the world's wealthiest individuals to channel their fortunes towards solving global challenges. Over the past 16 years, approximately 250 philanthropists from 30 countries have joined the pledge, including prominent figures like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Richard Branson. Now, a Kazakh family is among them.

Who is Aydin Rakhimbayev?

According to Forbes Kazakhstan's 2026 ranking, Rakhimbayev was the 9th wealthiest businessman in the country, with his fortune estimated at $1.1 billion. This year, he made his debut on Forbes' global billionaires list, ranking 3185th. Rakhimbayev is a key shareholder in the BI Group investment and construction holding. In 2025, the company delivered 2.4 million square meters of housing, positioning it among the world's largest developers. BI Group operates not only in Kazakhstan but also in Uzbekistan, the USA, and the UAE, and announced plans to enter the Azerbaijani market last year.

Their Philanthropic Commitment

In a letter published on The Giving Pledge website, the Rakhimbayevs shared their life journey, highlighting their upbringing in humble village families and how their understanding of wealth evolved. They stated, "My wife and I both grew up in very modest families, in small villages. From the moment we could understand, we worked tirelessly to build capital. Over time, we came to an important realization: capital is not the goal, but a tool. Its true value is determined by how much it can impact people's lives and contribute to societal development."

Their decision is concrete: "We commit to dedicating more than half of our wealth (approximately $600 million, or 276 billion tenge, based on the latest data) to philanthropy throughout our lives. Our success is the result of hard work, education, and trust. However, we are incredibly fortunate: our family gave us strength, our country provided opportunities, and society placed its trust in us – all of which formed the foundation of our prosperity. Therefore, we consider it our duty to give back to society by supporting those most in need."

Three Pillars of Their Philanthropy

The Rakhimbayevs outlined three specific areas for their philanthropic efforts in their letter.

First, they aim to amplify good deeds by combining the international experience of "The Giving Pledge" participants in addressing global social issues with local initiatives.

Second, they focus on creating opportunities: "The best thing we can do for our children is to change the world around them. We want to leave behind not money as an inheritance, but knowledge and opportunities that will endure for decades and centuries."

Third, they seek to foster a culture of giving by inspiring more members of the business community to engage in conscious philanthropy.

Current Initiatives

Aydin Rakhimbayev is the initiator of the "Ana Uyi" (Mother's Home) network, a project designed to prevent children from entering orphanages. He is also the author of the IQanat educational project, which provides quality education opportunities for rural children. These two projects have supported over 230 entrepreneurs and have been discussed at Harvard Business School. Together with the BI Group team, Rakhimbayev has organized funding for hundreds of complex surgeries, attracting world-class doctors.

"I am now 53 years old. My wife has always been by my side, supporting every initiative. Our current wealth is the result of 30 years of hard work with the BI Group team. By joining 'The Giving Pledge,' we have found even greater meaning in developing our business, as it allows us to do even more good in the second half of our lives," Rakhimbayev wrote.
