Kazakh MP Disputes Nazarbayev's Link to Politician's Death

The circumstances surrounding the death of prominent statesman Altynbek Sarsenbayuly continue to be a subject of public discussion. However, recent statements from a Member of Parliament suggest that theories linking former President Nursultan Nazarbayev directly to the assassination lack concrete evidence.

Aidos Sarym, a political scientist and Member of the Mazhilis (Kazakhstan's lower house of parliament), shared his views in an interview with "Sadaq media." He asserted that directly implicating Nazarbayev in Sarsenbayuly's death is unfounded, as no specific proof has been presented to support such claims.

Nazarbayev Accusations Deemed Unsubstantiated

Sarym addressed the persistent allegations, noting that while Altynbek Sarsenbayuly's brother, Rysbek Sarsenbayev, has publicly voiced strong opinions, these are not backed by evidence. "There might be a perception of Nazarbayev's involvement, but justice requires proof. No one has been able to demonstrate it, even indirectly," Sarym stated.

The MP offered his personal perspective, suggesting a closer connection between the assassination and Rakhat Aliyev. "I personally associate Altynbek's death more with Rakhat Aliyev," Sarym revealed. He based this on conversations with individuals who were close to Sarsenbayuly and remain active in similar circles, none of whom directly blamed Nazarbayev. Sarym emphasized that Rysbek Sarsenbayev's stance is his personal opinion, contrasting it with his own closer relationship with Altynbek Sarsenbayuly during their time working together.

A Leader Who Overcame Grudges

Beyond the political implications, Sarym also shed light on Altynbek Sarsenbayuly's personal character. He described the politician as initially holding significant grudges against many people, citing Serik Abdrakhmanov and Baltash Tursynbayev as examples. However, Sarym observed a significant transformation over time.

"Altynbek was a very vindictive person. He disliked many people. But over time, he changed. In his mature years, I saw him reconcile with those he once disliked, engaging with them on their level," the MP recounted.

This perspective offers a nuanced view on the enduring questions surrounding Sarsenbayuly's death, shifting focus from unsubstantiated political links to a more grounded analysis of the events and the individuals involved.
