President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan has officially signed a law ratifying a significant agreement with Austria focused on the repatriation and transit of illegal migrants. This move establishes a legal framework to manage individuals who are residing in either country without authorization or have lost their right to stay.

Streamlining Migrant Repatriation

The newly enacted law outlines specific procedures and timelines for returning individuals found to be in violation of immigration laws. This applies not only to citizens of Kazakhstan and Austria but also extends to third-country nationals and stateless persons.

Scope of the Agreement

Under the terms of the agreement, third-country nationals will be returned to their country of citizenship. Stateless individuals will be repatriated to the country where they last resided or to the state that issued their travel documents. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure an orderly and legally sound process for all parties involved.

Implementation and Responsibility

The practical implementation of this agreement will be overseen by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Austria's Federal Ministry of the Interior, specifically its Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.
