Residents in Kazakhstan's capital, Astana, and several other regions are advised to prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures overnight, with frost expected. The national weather service, Kazhydromet, has issued a storm warning due to the anticipated cold snap.

Akmola Region and Astana

In Astana, ground frost is predicted to reach up to 2 degrees Celsius overnight on May 11. The city will also experience gusty northwesterly winds reaching speeds of 15-20 m/s during the day.

Northern and Western Regions Affected

Several northern and western oblasts are under the frost advisory. In the northern part of the Aktobe region, temperatures could fall to 2 degrees Celsius below freezing overnight. Meanwhile, a high fire risk remains in the southern areas.

West Kazakhstan Experiences Mixed Conditions

The western and northwestern parts of the West Kazakhstan region are forecast to see rain and thunderstorms. Fog may form overnight and in the early morning in the northern areas. Strong winds are expected, with gusts reaching 15-20 m/s in the western and southern parts. Overnight temperatures in the northern districts could dip to 2 degrees Celsius. Oral city can expect fog during the night and morning of May 11.

Karaganda Region Faces Frost and Strong Winds

The southern and eastern areas of the Karaganda region may experience rain and thunderstorms overnight and in the early morning. Northwesterly winds will pick up, with gusts of 15-20 m/s expected in the western, northern, and southern parts of the region during the morning and daytime. Overnight temperatures in the northern and western districts could reach 3 degrees Celsius below freezing. A high fire risk is present in the western, northern, and southern areas. In Karaganda city itself, ground frost of 1-3 degrees Celsius is anticipated overnight, with a high fire risk also noted.

Kostanay Region on Alert for Frost and Fog

The western and northern parts of the Kostanay region might experience fog overnight and in the early morning. Northwesterly winds are predicted, with gusts of 15-20 m/s in the northern and eastern sections. Overnight temperatures in the western and northern districts could drop to 3 degrees Celsius below freezing. Kostanay city is also expecting overnight frost of 1-3 degrees Celsius.

Pavlodar Region Braces for Wind and Frost

Forecasters predict northwesterly winds across the Pavlodar region, with daytime gusts reaching 15-20 m/s. Overnight, the western and northern parts of the region could see frost down to 3 degrees Celsius. A high fire risk persists in the western, southern, and eastern areas. In Pavlodar city, ground frost of 1-3 degrees Celsius is possible overnight on May 11, accompanied by northwesterly winds gusting to 15-20 m/s.

North Kazakhstan Region: Significant Frost and High Winds

The North Kazakhstan region is set to experience northwesterly winds, with gusts reaching 15-20 m/s in the north and up to 23-28 m/s in the northern, eastern, and southern parts of the region, both day and night. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall between 1 and 6 degrees Celsius below freezing. In Petropavlovsk city, similar northwesterly winds are forecast, with gusts ranging from 15-20 m/s to 23-28 m/s. Overnight frost of 1-3 degrees Celsius is expected.

This advisory follows a previous warning issued by meteorologists about heavy rainfall across Kazakhstan.
