Kazakhstan Clarifies Teacher Responsibility for Student Safety

Kazakhstan is set to redefine the boundaries of teacher responsibility concerning student safety. Under new provisions, educators will be held accountable for the well-being of students exclusively within school premises, during instructional hours, and strictly within the scope of their official duties.

Legislative Changes Approved

These significant changes are part of amendments to the "On the Status of the Teacher" law, which have now been approved by the Mazhilis, the lower house of Kazakhstan's parliament. The bill's progression marks a crucial step towards clarifying the professional roles and responsibilities of educators.

Focus on Core Educational Duties

According to Member of Parliament Askhat Aimagambetov, the proposed legislation is designed to relieve teachers of tasks unrelated to their primary educational and upbringing functions. This initiative aligns with directives emphasizing that a teacher's responsibility should primarily encompass the teaching and learning process.

Path to the Senate

The bill, having passed the Mazhilis, will now be forwarded to the Senate for further review and consideration. Aimagambetov shared on his social media that the draft law, developed in response to a presidential directive from the August council meeting, is now en route to the Senate.

This clarification aims to ensure teachers can concentrate on their core mission of educating and nurturing students without undue burden from extraneous responsibilities.
