Kazakhstan's Oil Refineries Boost Production of Gasoline and Diesel

Kazakhstan's oil refineries have significantly ramped up their production of gasoline, diesel fuel, and bitumen by deepening the crude oil processing depth. This improvement was reported by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Increased Processing Depth Across Refineries

The overall depth of oil processing in the country has risen from 87.4% to 90% compared to the previous year. This positive trend is evident across all major refineries: Atyrau, Shymkent, and Pavlodar.

Specifically, the Atyrau Refinery saw its processing depth increase from 85% to 88%. The Shymkent Refinery improved from 86% to 88%. Meanwhile, the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant achieved a notable increase, raising its processing depth from 91% to 94%.

Focus on Light Oil Products

According to the Ministry, the primary driver behind this enhanced processing depth is the increased yield of light oil products, namely gasoline and diesel. The share of these products in the overall output has grown from 70-79% to 75-81%.

Additionally, the Pavlodar Petrochemical Plant saw a substantial rise in bitumen production, increasing from 366,000 tons to 426,000 tons, contributing positively to the overall output figures.

Production Volume Growth

By the end of 2025, Kazakhstan's auto gasoline production is projected to reach 5.7 million tons, marking a 7% increase from the previous year. Diesel fuel production is expected to grow even more significantly, reaching 6.1 million tons, a 16% rise.

Future Plans for Deeper Processing

The government aims to further increase the depth of oil processing to 94% in the future. To achieve this goal, modernization and capacity expansion projects will continue at the country's oil refineries.

This strategic move towards deeper processing is crucial for Kazakhstan's economy, which has historically relied on raw material exports. Enhancing refining capabilities allows the nation to reduce its dependence on fluctuating global oil prices and export market volatility.
