According to Germany's Geosciences Centre (GFZ), the earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers. Initial reports estimated the magnitude at 8.2, but this was later revised to 7.8.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a magnitude of 7.0 and warned of potential tsunamis exceeding one meter in height. Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the magnitude at 7.7. Authorities in both nations have issued tsunami warnings, urging residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

As of now, there have been no official reports of significant damage or casualties in either country. Police Chief Benjie Ancheta of Alabel City described the event as "the strongest earthquake ever experienced" in the region. Witnesses in Manado, Indonesia, reported feeling intense shaking, and videos circulating on social media appear to show structural damage to buildings.
