Mysterious Green Flash Lights Up Astana Skies, Causes Power Outages
Astana residents were left bewildered on the evening of March 5th as a mysterious green or blue light illuminated the horizon. The unusual phenomenon, captured in videos circulating on social media, sparked widespread curiosity and discussion among the city's inhabitants.
Power Outages Accompany Celestial Display
Eyewitness accounts suggest the strange light appeared around 8:00 PM. Simultaneously, streetlights in several areas reportedly went dark. Some observers described the light as distinctly blue. Following the appearance of the flash, a power outage affected the left bank of the capital city.
Residents reported that lights also went out in residential buildings within the affected areas, adding to the confusion and concern.
Speculation Mounts Over Cause
Online discussions quickly turned to speculation about the cause of the phenomenon. One popular theory among social media users pointed to a short circuit or electrical arc at a power substation. "When a short circuit or arc occurs at an electrical substation, it trips. Street sodium lamps are sensitive to such events. They go out and then turn back on after cooling down. This only lasts about 30 seconds," one user explained.
Others proposed that the light might have been a reflection of a significant explosion or event occurring on the ground.
Official Explanations Awaited
As of now, neither the Ministry of Digital Development nor the Energy Regulation Committee has provided an official explanation for the mysterious light or the subsequent power outages. This event echoes a similar sighting several years ago, when Astana residents also witnessed an unexplained light in the sky, leading to speculation about meteorites or comets.
