Nursultan Nazarbayev Reflects on Grandson Aisultan's Life and Death

Nursultan Nazarbayev, the First President of Kazakhstan, has shared personal reflections on the life and untimely death of his grandson, Aisultan Nazarbayev. These heartfelt memories were revealed in a documentary film titled 'Strokes to the Portrait' aired on the 'Khabar' channel.

A Striking Resemblance

Nazarbayev spoke candidly about how much Aisultan resembled him in character and disposition. "Unfortunately, this year we lost one of my grandsons. He was very much like me. He passed away earlier than his time," the former president stated, expressing his grief.

Battling Personal Challenges

The First President acknowledged the significant health and lifestyle challenges Aisultan faced. Despite the family's efforts to provide treatment and support, fully controlling the situation proved impossible. "Perhaps he shouldn't have been sent anywhere. But it was impossible to hold him back. He was a slave to this habit, he couldn't stop," Nazarbayev recalled. He mentioned that Aisultan underwent treatment in both Moscow and London, with periods of recovery followed by relapses.

Aisultan Nazarbayev's Legacy

Aisultan Nazarbayev, son of Dariga Nazarbayeva and Rakhat Aliyev, passed away in 2020. His death was a subject of considerable public discussion at the time. The documentary 'Strokes to the Portrait' is part of a larger series exploring Nursultan Nazarbayev's life, political career, family, and personal experiences, including previously untold stories.
