Over 50 Children Abducted from Three Nigerian Schools in Coordinated Attack
In a disturbing incident in Nigeria's northeastern Borno State, over 50 children have been abducted by unknown armed individuals following coordinated attacks on three schools. The abductions occurred simultaneously on the morning of May 15th.
Coordinated School Raids
The targeted educational institutions were the Musa Government Secondary School, Musa Central Primary School, and the Board of General Education Secondary School. Witnesses and local residents reported that armed assailants stormed the schools around 9 a.m. during class hours, seizing students.
While some students managed to escape, a significant number were taken. The attackers reportedly arrived on motorcycles, and witnesses claim the children were used as human shields as the perpetrators fled the scene.
Details of the Abductions
According to Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, approximately 42 children may have been abducted from the schools and their homes. He specified that four students (two boys and two girls) were taken from GDSS school, 28 students from the primary school, and an additional 10 children were abducted from their residences.
One local resident recounted that their 6-year-old daughter was among those taken. A teacher described the harrowing event, stating, "Some students managed to hide in the bushes, but many were abducted."
Ongoing Investigation and Search
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks. Such incidents in the region are often attributed to armed groups operating in northern Nigeria, including radical factions.
Following the incident, some residents of the Musa district have fled their homes. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their search efforts to locate and rescue the abducted children.
