YouTube Tests Ad-Free Viewing During Live Streams for Engaged Viewers
YouTube is rolling out a new feature designed to enhance the live viewing experience by allowing temporary ad pauses during live streams. This initiative aims to keep viewers engaged during crucial moments of a broadcast.
Ads Paused During Peak Engagement
The platform will now monitor audience activity in real-time, particularly during live chats. When discussions become highly active, YouTube's algorithms can temporarily halt advertisements for all viewers. This is intended to prevent interruptions during significant parts of a stream, such as the final moments of a sports match, an important announcement from the content creator, or unexpected events.
Key Condition: Automatic Ads Enabled
This new ad-free viewing option is not universally available. A primary condition is that the content creator must have automatic ads enabled on their channel. If ads are manually placed or disabled by the creator, these temporary ad-free periods will not function. The feature is exclusively for streams where the 'automatic ads' option is active.
Personalized Ad-Free Zones
Additionally, YouTube is introducing personalized ad-free viewing zones for individual viewers. This feature activates automatically after a user supports the creator through Super Chat, Super Stickers, or virtual gifts. Following a payment, viewers can enjoy a period of ad-free viewing for a set duration, provided the creator's automatic ads are enabled.
Expanded Virtual Gifts and New Broadcasting Options
Virtual gifts are also seeing an expansion. They can now be sent during horizontal live streams, not just vertical ones, and this capability extends to mobile devices. YouTube has broadened the availability of this feature to creators in countries including Canada, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand. Future plans include introducing special gifts for holidays and local events.
Content creators will also benefit from the ability to simultaneously broadcast in both vertical and horizontal formats, with all viewers joining a single chat. This allows broadcasts to adapt seamlessly to smartphones, computers, and televisions.
