A Turkish court hearing the case of the 'Sumud' humanitarian flotilla has ordered an international arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu through Interpol، reports website infohub.kz.
Netanyahu and 34 other Israeli officials are accused of crimes against humanity، genocide، intentional harm to health، unlawful imprisonment، cruel treatment، robbery، and illegal seizure of vehicles، according to Halk TV.
The 'Sumud' humanitarian flotilla (from the Arabic 'sumud' meaning 'steadfastness') is an international civil initiative that included over 50 vessels with 500 activists from 45 countries. Its goal was to break Israel's naval blockade of the Gaza Strip to deliver humanitarian aid. In October، the largest civilian convoy in history was intercepted by the Israeli Navy near Cyprus. The flotilla had set sail again from Turkey's Marmaris. Israeli ships began the interception operation in international waters off the coasts of Crete and Cyprus، detaining about 175 activists، which once again sparked international tension.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan previously stated that the current Israeli government 'has become dependent on wars' and should not be given a chance to once again drag the Middle East into bloodshed.
