On Thursday, August 22, unfavorable meteorological conditions conducive to air pollution are expected in seven cities across Kazakhstan. According to infohub.kz, citing data from Kazhydromet, the cities at risk include Karaganda, Zhezkazgan, Balkhash, Temirtau, Almaty, as well as Astana and Atyrau during nighttime hours.

Unfavorable meteorological conditions (UMC) refer to a combination of short-term weather factors such as calm winds, light breezes, fog, and temperature inversions that lead to the accumulation of harmful substances in the surface layer of the atmosphere. When UMC occur, air quality in populated areas may deteriorate. A key factor determining pollution levels is the synoptic forecast, which includes wind, precipitation, humidity, and air temperature.

In light of these adverse weather conditions, experts recommend reducing time spent outdoors, especially near highways and other pollution sources. Children and pregnant women should avoid prolonged walks. Individuals with chronic lung diseases, cardiovascular conditions, and allergies should keep their medications on hand. It is also advised to limit physical exertion outdoors and to conduct exercise and sports activities in indoor sports facilities.
