A court in Aktobe has begun hearing the case of a 16-year-old teenager accused of murdering his mother and attacking his grandmother. The student is currently in a psychiatric hospital and is not present at the hearings, reports infohub.kz.
The tragedy occurred in December 2025 in one of the city's apartment buildings. According to the investigation, the teenager attacked his mother and grandmother with a knife. The grandmother survived, but the mother died from her wounds.
According to the results of the examination, the teenager was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Experts concluded that at the time of the attack, he was not aware of the nature of his actions.
The teenager's father and grandmother attended the court session. They asked journalists not to film them and declined to comment.
The circumstances of the incident were outlined during the hearing by Yeldar Abiyev, senior prosecutor of the Aktobe regional prosecutor's office.
"The teenager was in the kitchen when his mother made a remark about his academic performance. After that, he opened the cabinet above the sink, saw a knife with a black handle, took it, and chased the woman to another room. There, he inflicted several stab wounds on various parts of her body. The mother died at the scene from her injuries," the prosecutor said.
