The City Cardiology Center of Almaty has received Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for the first time — a certification confirming compliance with global standards of quality and patient safety, infohub.kz reports.
JCI is an international organization that assesses medical institutions against quality and patient safety standards. Holding the accreditation means a clinic meets the requirements set out by the body.
The certificate was issued for a three-year term. The center thus became the first city hospital in Kazakhstan and the first specialized emergency cardiac care center in the country to receive this status.
Specialists carried out the review from August 19 to 21. The experts evaluated the safety of medication and surgical care, infection control, risk management and the quality control system for treatment.
According to the Ministry of Health, the center provided care to more than 1.1 million people in the first eight months of 2026. More than 7,500 patients received inpatient treatment there.
Over the same period, the center performed more than 90,000 operations and procedures — 35.5% more than in the same period of 2025.
Last year, the center's specialists performed a heart transplant for the first time in their practice. The operation was one of the most complex ever carried out at the hospital.
Kursiv Health previously reported that the Ministry of Health had prepared amendments to the rules for accrediting medical laboratories. The procedure will now be conducted online.
