The concert of American rapper Kanye West (Ye), postponed from August 14 to August 15, took place in Almaty calmly and without incidents, reports infohub.kz.
Security for the audience was provided by about 2,500 police officers and National Guard servicemen.
“Our priority was to ensure the safety of every resident and guest of the city. Throughout the event, police officers together with National Guard servicemen maintained public order and monitored the traffic situation,” said Aydin Kabduldinov, head of the Almaty police department.
He also thanked residents and guests of Almaty for their discipline, understanding, and compliance with the law.
“Safety at such large-scale events is the result of joint work of law enforcement and citizens themselves,” the Almaty police chief stated.
Ye's performance in Almaty was his first major concert in Kazakhstan. It was prepared for several weeks. A large spherical structure was installed at the arena — one of the elements of Ye's show. Organizers also reported delivering more than 100 tons of technical equipment to Almaty.
Initially, the show was scheduled for August 14 as part of the world tour YE TOUR 2026. Organizers earlier said that the date of the performance changed even at the preparation stage: due to adjustments in logistics and the order of cities in the tour, they had to promptly agree on holding the concert on August 14, but for security reasons the concert had to be postponed to August 15.
And the day before, the event was in question due to a massive power outage in Almaty. Later, power supply in the city began to be restored, but the metropolis was hit by bad weather; organizers feared that due to precipitation, the stage dome could become slippery, creating risks for the artist during the performance.
