Kazakhstan's southern capital has once again captured the attention of South Korean audiences: on August 14, 2026, MBC aired a new episode of the popular show I Live Alone, dedicated to Almaty. The city's appearance on the program could boost tourist inflows and increase interest in the metropolis as a travel destination, according to infohub.kz.
As reported by the Almaty city administration's press service, the episode's main star was renowned TV host and comedian Jun Hyun-moo. During his trip, he visited Almaty International Airport, Kok Tobe, the Green Bazaar, and Arbat, and also traveled to Lake Kaindy.
"I Live Alone is one of South Korea's most popular entertainment shows with a multi-million audience. The episode featuring Jun Hyun-moo is also notable for the host's popularity, as his social media accounts have over 800,000 followers," the statement said.
The episode was very vibrant, showcasing urban life, Kazakh culture, and stunning landscapes.
After airing, the video appeared on MBC's official YouTube channel. The clip about the trip to Almaty has garnered over 500,000 views. In the comments, viewers share their impressions of the city and the places featured.
"In 2025, the city welcomed over 23,000 tourists from South Korea. Almaty is not only attractive to Korean travelers but also to local media as a filming location for international content. Previously, the city hosted a special episode of SBS's popular show 'My Little Old Boy,' and now Almaty has been featured on I Live Alone on MBC. Thus, the city is increasingly drawing the attention of Korean audiences as a tourist destination and a venue for international media projects," the city administration summarized.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that 31,000 spectators attended the YE (Kanye West) concert in Almaty, including about 7,700 tourists from over 50 countries and territories. Organizers estimated the economic impact of the tourist flow at approximately 5 billion tenge.
