In Almaty, surgeons at the City Children's Clinical Hospital No. 2 performed a complex operation on a six-year-old patient with a giant tumor weighing over three kilograms, reports infohub.kz.

The child was admitted with complaints of significant abdominal enlargement, pain, and restlessness. After a comprehensive examination, specialists identified a large tumor located in the retroperitoneal space.

As noted by the hospital's director, Marat Rabandiyarov, the complexity of the surgery lay not only in the size of the mass but also in its close association with major vessels and pronounced blood supply, which posed a high risk of massive blood loss. Every millimeter mattered.

"Despite the technical difficulty, our surgeons managed to completely isolate and remove the mass in one block, avoiding significant blood loss. The weight of the removed mass was 3124 kg. Histological examination confirmed it was a lipoma — a benign tumor of fatty tissue," emphasized Marat Rabandiyarov.

According to doctors, further growth of the tumor could have led to compression and displacement of internal organs and vessels, causing serious complications.

"Another small victory for our team, and most importantly, the child returns home healthy and smiling. Take care of your children and do not delay seeking medical attention if you notice unusual changes in their condition or appearance," noted the operating surgeon, Deputy Director for Surgery Marat Kaptagaev.

The operation was successful, the child has recovered and been discharged home.
