Over the first six months of 2026, athletes from the capital took part in 668 competitions at various levels and won a total of 2,712 medals, including 1,069 gold, 844 silver, and 799 bronze, according to infohub.kz.
In addition to professional sports, the city supports 376 promising athletes who receive monthly financial allowances.
The first half of the year was marked by notable triumphs at Asian and world championships. Gold medals at the Asian Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar were won by Nurbek and Aibek Oralbay, while at the youth tournament in Tashkent, Nurislam Baktubaev and Sabyrzhan Sagym stood out. Wrestlers Rizabek Aitmukhan and Aibek Aitbekov, as well as shooters, rowers, gymnasts, and cyclists, also successfully competed for top honors. On the world stage, Kazakh taekwondo athletes and Muay Thai fighters achieved historic results, winning numerous awards.
In the second half of the year, athletes face new major challenges. From August 31 to September 6, the 6th World Nomad Games will be held in Kyrgyzstan, where the capital will be represented by six athletes in three disciplines. Additionally, leading athletes are preparing for the 2026 Summer Asian and Para-Asian Games in Japan, and continue to compete in the ongoing 4th Spartakiad of the Republic of Kazakhstan in deaf sports.
