A driver has been detained in Almaty for pursuing a woman and threatening her with an object resembling a weapon. The incident occurred in front of witnesses and was captured on video, which spread on social media, reports infohub.kz.

According to the victim, an unknown man followed her from Dostyk Street to Al-Farabi Avenue. She then drove into the parking lot of the Esentai shopping center, where the driver blocked her path and pointed an object that looked like a large-caliber pistol or submachine gun at her.

"I don't know what he was thinking. This is clearly the behavior of a sick or drunk person," the woman wrote, urging law enforcement to take action.

Almaty police said the video was discovered during social media monitoring. Officers from the Medeu district police department identified the suspect, detained him, and brought him to the station. It turned out that the item was a toy gun and not a firearm.

The driver has been charged with petty hooliganism, and the case has been sent to court. Additionally, he faces administrative charges for traffic violations.

Police emphasized that even a toy gun can frighten people and cause panic. "Displaying objects that look like weapons in public places is unacceptable, even if they are toys," police warned.

The Almaty police department added that such actions require an immediate response from law enforcement.

Earlier, it was reported that a man with a knife and a grenade was detained in Almaty.
