A resident of the Mangystau Region bought gold earrings worth 700,000 tenge as a gift for her mother-in-law's 70th birthday, but the jewelry broke just an hour and a half after being presented. The seller refused to return the money, but after the intervention of the Department of Trade, the funds were returned, reports the website infohub.kz.
The woman purchased the gold earrings through Instagram about a month before the celebration to prepare in advance. However, only 90 minutes after giving the gift, one of the earrings cracked in the middle and split into two pieces. It later emerged that the item had been crafted with a very thin connecting element.
The consumer demanded a replacement or a full refund from the seller, who refused, claiming that a month had passed since the purchase. She then contacted the Department of Trade and Consumer Protection for the Mangystau Region. Specialists intervened under the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'On Consumer Protection' and helped restore the violated rights. As a result, the seller refunded the full 700,000 tenge.
The department reminded consumers that if they purchase a defective product or have their rights violated in any other way, they can seek protection from the department.
