A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck Buryatia, prompting residents of several cities in Irkutsk Oblast to evacuate their homes, reports infohub.kz.
The seismic event was recorded in the Tunkinsky district. According to the regional department of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM), the epicenter was located 7.6 km northwest of the settlement of Kyren. The ministry's statement said: "A seismic event has been recorded in the Tunkinsky district. The epicenter was located 7.6 km northwest of the settlement of Kyren."
The Baikal branch of the Unified Geodetic Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences specified that the energy class of the earthquake was 12.9, and the magnitude reached approximately 6.7. Tremors were felt by residents of Irkutsk, Angarsk, Slyudyanka, and Shelekhov. According to eyewitnesses, chandeliers and furniture swayed in buildings, and some people hastily evacuated.
