In the East Kazakhstan region, 21 clients have won refunds for undelivered healthy meal plans. An entrepreneur will pay them over 3.6 million tenge, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, residents of East Kazakhstan signed contracts with an individual entrepreneur for the delivery of healthy meal rations and paid for the services in advance.
“Residents of the region began seeking help from the Department of Trade and Consumer Protection of East Kazakhstan region. In the end, this story turned out to involve not just one dissatisfied client, but 21 consumers who found themselves in the same situation,” the statement said.
Consumers tried to resolve the issue directly with the entrepreneur. The department also sent him a pre-trial claim, but the money was not returned.
After that, the department filed a collective lawsuit in court.
“The Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'On Protection of Consumer Rights' directly provides for the right of citizens to demand proper quality of services, and if the service is provided improperly or the obligations are not fulfilled by the executor, to terminate the contract and return the paid money,” the Ministry of Trade said.
The law also allows the authorized body to go to court to protect an indefinite circle of consumers if the same violation affects the rights of more than ten people. In this case, it was about 21 clients.
“The department filed a collective lawsuit with the Interdistrict Court for Civil Cases of Ust-Kamenogorsk, demanding to protect the rights of the affected clients and return their money for services not rendered. On July 16, 2026, the court put an end to this story, satisfying the department's claims,” the ministry added.
Notably, the main amount of material damage amounted to 3,055,138 tenge. Another 611,028 tenge was collected as a penalty. In total, 21 consumers are to be paid 3,666,166 tenge.
