Farid Zigangirov, a renowned hockey player who once defended the colors of Almaty's Dynamo club, has passed away at the age of 72. This was reported by infohub.kz.

The sad news was shared by the hockey club "Rodina" from the Russian city of Kirov on its VKontakte page. According to the published message, Farid Nurgaliyevich died on August 20.

Farid Zigangirov was born on August 15, 1954, in Kirov. From the first grade, he began playing football and bandy at the Rodina stadium. In 1970, he was invited to the master team "Rodina," where he played until 1973, after which he moved to Almaty's Dynamo, where he gradually specialized in field hockey.

Zigangirov was a bronze medalist at the 1980 Summer Olympics and a Honored Master of Sports of the USSR. From 1973 to 1987, he became the USSR champion 13 times, was a silver medalist once, won the USSR Cup five times, and the European Champions Cup twice.

In 1980, he was part of the USSR national field hockey team at the Summer Olympics in Moscow, where he won a bronze medal. Later, he also won the Intercontinental Cup and became a silver medalist at the European Championship in Amstelveen.
