French President Emmanuel Macron has announced the deployment of military personnel, aircraft, and drones to the border with Spain amid the migrant crisis in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, according to infohub.kz.
In a post on X, Macron wrote: "Four rapid-response units, aircraft, and drones have been deployed." He also said he had contacted Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to express solidarity with Madrid and offer any necessary assistance.
According to foreign media, an estimated 40,000 to 60,000 undocumented migrants have entered Ceuta from Morocco in recent days, overwhelming local infrastructure.
The escalation was sparked by a ruling from Spain's Supreme Court that prohibits the automatic deportation to Morocco of migrants who reached the enclave by swimming.
France has tightened border controls. Italy, Finland, and Denmark have called for the temporary exclusion of Spain from the Schengen Area or suspension of the agreement with it to halt the flow of refugees.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Moroccan migrants had attacked the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa. Thousands are reaching Ceuta by swimming, causing a humanitarian and social crisis. Local authorities have requested the deployment of the army to contain the situation.
