In Kokshetau, cyber police officers solved an internet fraud case related to apartment rental. The suspect was located a thousand kilometers away in Uralsk, according to the website infohub.kz.
Police established that a resident of Uralsk had posted an online ad for renting out an apartment in Kokshetau. To attract potential clients, he used photos of someone else's apartment and set the rent below market value.
The ad caught the attention of a Kokshetau resident. Without verifying the accuracy of the information or confirming the existence of the apartment, the man contacted the "landlord." During the correspondence, the fraudster convinced him to transfer money as a prepayment. The victim transferred 30,000 tenge.
After receiving the money, the "apartment owner" stopped communicating. Realizing he had been deceived, the man turned to the police.
As a result of investigative measures, officers from the cybercrime unit identified the suspect, a resident of Uralsk. During the investigation, his mobile phone was seized and attached to the case as material evidence.
Currently, police are checking his involvement in other similar crimes.
