Reconstruction of the Alimbet checkpoint on the Kazakh-Russian border continues, aiming to increase traffic capacity and reduce vehicle processing time to about four minutes, reports infohub.kz.

The 16.7 billion tenge project, carried out by the Aktobe regional branch of NC KazAvtoZhol JSC, began in September 2025. Construction is currently 32% complete.

Work is scheduled to finish by the end of 2026. After renovation, the checkpoint will feature four lanes in each direction, including one for oversized vehicles.

“Automation will cut vehicle processing time to approximately four minutes per unit. This will be achieved through a license plate recognition system integrated with the database,” said the Aktobe Region administration.

Earlier reports covered obstacles preventing Kazakhstan from becoming a logistics hub between China, Russia, Europe, and Central Asia.
