Kazakhstan is launching a pilot project that will allow citizens to obtain passports and identity cards without queues or the involvement of migration service specialists. This will become possible thanks to biometric terminals to be installed in public service centers, reports infohub.kz.

The joint order of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been published on the website of the legal information system "Adilet". The document regulates the provision of the state service "Issuance of passports and identity cards to citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan using the 'Biometric Documenting Terminal' complex".

The terminals will appear in the front offices of the "Government for Citizens" in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, regional centers and Baikonur. They will be available for use starting August 28.

An important condition: through the terminal, one can obtain an identity card only if its validity has expired. The service is available if no more than 30 calendar days remain before the expiration date, or if the validity expired no more than 10 days ago. In other cases, the system will notify the applicant of the need to visit a public service center.
