More than half of Kazakhstan's residents believe that every city has its own unique color. According to a survey conducted by the Golden Apple retail chain, which involved over 1,300 people aged 18 and above, residents and visitors of Almaty most often associate the city with the color green—57% of respondents said so. Another 21% chose gold or yellow, and 19% chose blue. The main reasons for these associations were the abundance of parks and squares, as well as the vibrant atmosphere of the metropolis (51% of responses). Warm and sunny climate was noted by 34% of participants, while 15% mentioned iconic landmarks, including the Green Bazaar and Medeu, reports infohub.kz.

Astana appears in graphite and metallic tones—37% of respondents think so. Another 27% each chose white with cream or blue. The capital's modern architecture was the main explanation (53%), and participants also noted the clear climate and the city's strict business image.

Shymkent is associated with gold or yellow (35% of votes), green was chosen by 33%, and red by 22%. Golden shades are linked to the bright sun (51%), and the city's liveliness and openness were noted by 40%.

Among other cities, Aktau is most often associated with blue due to the Caspian Sea. Taraz and Uralsk are seen as green, Karaganda as metallic or graphite. 47% of participants linked Kyzylorda with red. Oskemen received several shades: metallic, green, and blue. Pavlodar is associated with metallic, sandy-beige, and blue; Atyrau with sandy and metallic; Kostanay with green; and Aktobe with graphite and terracotta.
