Kazakhstan's Ministry of Health has put up for public discussion a draft order defining the list of medical specialties for internship. The document was published on the portal of open regulatory legal acts, reports infohub.kz.
According to the draft, the new model provides for step-by-step training: after completing the bachelor's program, future doctors will undergo an internship, where they will consolidate their knowledge in real clinical settings under the guidance of more experienced colleagues.
"Approving the list of internship specialties will ensure unified approaches to the practical training of young doctors and continuity between stages of medical education," the rationale states.
The list itself is not provided in the document. In response to a request from Kursiv, the Ministry of Health reported that the list includes eight specialties in total. Among them: general practice; therapy; surgery; pediatrics; pediatric surgery; obstetrics and gynecology; dentistry; hygiene and epidemiology.
The ministry emphasized that the implementation of the project will bring the training system for Kazakhstani doctors closer to the best international standards. In addition, the internship will give doctors good practice, which will increase their professionalism and independence.
Kursiv previously reported that in May, Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova announced the transition to a new training scheme "6+1". Now, medical students will study for six years at the university plus one year of internship. At that time, Alnazarova noted that the new model will have a very good effect on the work of young doctors.
