In the Turkistan region, a prosecutor's inspection found 89 people registered with psychiatric and drug addiction clinics who, despite medical contraindications, held driver's licenses and continued to drive, reports infohub.kz.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the violation was discovered during a check of compliance with road safety legislation.

Under Kazakhstan's law, people with mental and behavioral disorders, as well as disorders related to psychoactive substance use, are not allowed to drive if they have medical contraindications.

After the prosecutors' intervention, courts revoked the driving privileges of all 89 individuals. Additionally, responsible officials were held accountable.

The prosecutor's office added that inspections in this area are ongoing.

In April, the Interior Ministry announced it was preparing amendments to the Law on Road Traffic that would tighten requirements for driving schools, shifting from a notification-based to a licensing-based system for their opening.
