In the first half of this year, Kazakhstan recorded a decrease in mortality from cardiovascular diseases, oncology, and road traffic accidents, as well as an improvement in maternal and child health indicators, reports infohub.kz.
As stated by First Vice Minister of Health Timur Sultangaziyev at a ministry board meeting, over seven months maternal mortality decreased by 17.5%, mortality from circulatory system diseases by 10.9%, from oncological diseases by 5%, and from road accidents by 20.9%. Overall mortality decreased by 0.8%.
According to Sultangaziyev, the maternal mortality rate for this period decreased from 9.7 to 8.0 per 100,000 live births, infant mortality was 5.93 against a plan of 7.3, and neonatal mortality was 3.05 against a plan of 4.1.
In the second half of the year, the main focus will be on preventing pregnancy complications, quality of observation, patronage, and timely medical care. Additionally, the ministry intends to strengthen efforts to increase cancer screening coverage in regions with low early detection rates and patient routing issues.
"By the end of the year, we will need not explanations of reasons, but concrete improvement in indicators and real results for the population," emphasized Sultangaziyev.
Earlier it was reported that in the first three months of 2026, maternal mortality decreased by 43% compared to the same period last year, and infant mortality decreased from 5.92 to 5.56 per 1,000 newborns.
