Kazakhstan is discussing the return of traditional forms of knowledge assessment in primary grades. Zhanara Zhaksylykova, a master teacher at the innovative school named after Akhmet Baitursynuly, told the Central Communications Service how student performance will be evaluated, reports infohub.kz.
According to Zhaksylykova, for younger students, dictation with grammar tasks may be introduced first. This form will allow assessing literacy and command of language norms. A math test will help track not only computational skills but also the ability to apply knowledge in solving educational and practical problems. Essays and summaries, in turn, will show how well a student understands the text, its content, and whether they can independently formulate their own written statement.
The teacher also noted that teachers may offer children research and project assignments. They develop skills in analyzing information, comparing, formulating conclusions, justifying decisions, and presenting work results.
Special attention will be paid to calligraphy skills, as teachers insisted. All these types of tasks will contribute to the development of functional literacy and critical thinking, since they require not simple reproduction but understanding, application, analysis, and argumentation of one's position.
Earlier it was reported that new subjects, including "Fundamentals of the Constitution," will appear in Kazakh schools.
