The Kostanay region has allocated 2.4 billion tenge from its emergency reserve to address flood damage in areas under a state of emergency, reports infohub.kz.
The funds were used to compensate residents for losses, provide one-time social assistance, and restore road infrastructure and electricity supply in affected settlements. The largest share went to Arkalyk — 880 million tenge, followed by Kostanay district with 419 million, Amangeldi district with 351 million, Zhangeldi district with 316 million, and the regional center, Kostanay, received 300 million tenge.
According to the press service of the regional administration, the government of Kazakhstan allocated a first tranche of 405 million tenge from its emergency reserve to purchase apartments in Arkalyk, with 27 apartments already acquired.
Compensation has been paid for 780 livestock animals, while more than 980 livestock have died as a result of the floods.
Social assistance has been paid based on 1,736 applications totaling 640.9 million tenge. In the Amangeldi district, all 317 applications have been processed, while work continues in other districts. Applications and payments are ongoing. Reports are currently being prepared to assess damage to household appliances and furniture, after which compensation to residents will begin.
The floodwaters arrived in the Kostanay region on March 25. Villages near Arkalyk were the first to be submerged, followed by settlements in the Zhangeldi and Amangeldi districts, where a state of emergency was declared on March 28. Later, states of emergency were declared in the Karasu, Kostanay districts, and the city of Kostanay.
Earlier, 24 families who lost their homes due to the flood in the village of Ekidin received the first apartments in Arkalyk.
