The State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic (SCNS KR) has disrupted the activities of a persistent corruption group operating at the Ak-Tilek road checkpoint (on the Kazakh side, the Karasu checkpoint), reports the website infohub.kz.

During operational and investigative measures, security forces established that officials had organized a scheme for the illegal and unimpeded passage of commercial goods across the state border.

According to the special service, employees of the State Border Service (SBS KR) and the EAEU department of the State Tax Service, for a regular monetary reward, allowed heavy trucks with commercial goods from Kazakhstan to enter Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, according to official documents and reports, loaded trucks were recorded as completely empty vehicles.

As part of the criminal investigation, SCNS officers detained four participants in the scheme: a serviceman of the Border Service of the SCNS KR, E.U.Ch.; employees of the State Tax Service under the EAEU for the northern region, J.M.T. and O.K.I.; and a truck driver, N.M.S. All suspects have been placed in the temporary detention facility of the SCNS pre-trial detention center in accordance with Article 96 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Currently, investigative authorities are continuing operational measures to establish all circumstances of the case and identify other possible members of the criminal group.
