On July 18, 2026, the geomagnetic field is expected to remain calm or experience only minor fluctuations unlikely to affect human well-being. However, among all forecasts, one stands out, warning of a powerful geostorm, reports infohub.kz.
According to several sources, Saturday will pass with a stable magnetosphere. Some forecasts indicate complete geomagnetic calm, while others estimate activity at a Kp index (planetary geomagnetic activity index) of 2 — a normal background safe even for weather-sensitive individuals.
Some hourly models allow for minor geomagnetic field variations throughout the day: the index may rise to Kp 4. Such changes are considered weak activity and rarely cause noticeable deterioration in health.
However, a completely different scenario also exists. One forecast warns of a possible G3-class magnetic storm (strong on the NOAA scale) with the Kp index rising to 7. Currently, this assessment remains isolated and is not confirmed by most experts, so the probability of such an event is considered low. Such discrepancies arise from differences in methods for analyzing solar activity and the models used for calculations.
Experts remind that space weather forecasts can change literally hours before an event, as new data on the Sun's state become available. Therefore, the final picture will become clear closer to the beginning of the day.
As of now, the most likely scenario remains calm, without strong magnetic storms. Nevertheless, people sensitive to changes in the geomagnetic background are advised to avoid excessive physical exertion, get enough sleep, and monitor forecast updates.
