The trend of parties where guests wear items they can no longer wear anywhere else has arrived in Kazakhstan, reports infohub.kz citing Kursiv LifeStyle.
Such events likely originated from ironic videos on Instagram and TikTok: users first showed themselves in everyday clothes, then revealed an extravagant or very dressy wardrobe item. To "show it off," they needed a special occasion, which could be months or even years away.
Around 2024–2025, these "fashion shows" moved offline. The market has already adapted: on Etsy, the US platform for handmade goods, invitations for "Nowhere to wear it party" have appeared.
On social media, Kazakhs have posted videos of a similar party. In the video, young people dramatically open doors to a room and parade in wedding dresses, work overalls, and even military uniforms. In the comments, users highly praised the format.
"I urgently need to organize such a party," "Can I join you? I have tons of such things," "I opened my closet, and half the clothes have nowhere to go. I'd probably come like a cabbage with all the rags I have nowhere to wear," wrote Kazakhs.
Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote about another trend among Gen Z and millennials: routine parties where friends do "adult things."
