A regional specialized pediatric cardiac surgery center has opened in Turkistan, based at the regional children's hospital. Young patients from the Turkistan and Kyzylorda regions, as well as from Shymkent, will now have access to high-tech medical care, reports infohub.kz.
Zhanbolat Dildabekov, deputy head of the regional health department, emphasized that the opening of such a center is a significant step in improving access to medical care for children with congenital heart defects.
"Now children with congenital heart defects from the Turkistan and Kyzylorda regions and Shymkent will have access to highly specialized cardiac surgery close to home," he noted.
The new center includes cardiac surgery and cardiac intensive care units, as well as a modern operating block. It is planned to perform more than a hundred complex operations annually.
According to Dildabekov, this will allow both planned and emergency care for young patients in the region. He also recalled that since 2014, over 3,400 operations for congenital heart defects have been performed at the Turkistan Regional Children's Hospital. Currently, the pediatric cardiac surgery department performs more than a hundred operations a year, including complex open-heart interventions.
"The work of the new center will lead to early detection of heart defects and timely treatment for children," he stressed.
Earlier it was reported that in 2025, more than 13,000 open-heart operations and 100 heart transplants were performed in Kazakhstan. According to the Ministry of Health, mortality from cardiovascular diseases in the country has decreased by a third over the past five years.
