British actress Phyllida Law, known for her roles in film, theatre, and television, has died at the age of 94. She appeared alongside her daughters, reports infohub.kz.
Law passed away at home surrounded by her family. Her personal manager, Jackie Leggo, said: "She died very peacefully at home, surrounded by her family."
Law was born in Glasgow in 1932. Initially intending to become a set designer, she decided to pursue acting while studying at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. In the 1950s, she performed in productions at the Bristol Old Vic, where she met actor Eric Thompson. They married in 1957.
Law began appearing on television in the late 1950s. Over the following decades, she starred in series such as "Doctor Finlay's Casebook," "Dixon of Dock Green," and "The Rescue Squad."
Her theatre career also flourished. She performed on the stage of the National Theatre and took part in early London productions of notable plays and musicals.
From the late 1980s, Law appeared more frequently in films. She starred alongside her daughter Emma Thompson in "Peter's Friends," "Much Ado About Nothing," and "The Winter Guest." With her other daughter, Sophie Thompson, she appeared in the adaptation of Jane Austen's "Emma," alongside Gwyneth Paltrow.
Law continued to work on television, appearing in series such as "Waking the Dead," "Rosemary & Thyme," "Foyle's War," "Doc Martin," and "Agatha Christie's Poirot." Her last on-screen role was in the romantic film "Then Came You" in 2020.
Phyllida Law outlived her husband Eric Thompson, who died in 1982. She is survived by her daughters Emma and Sophie Thompson.
